Many managers find flexible work schedules hard to deal with. They struggle when a project requires collaboration or if an issue comes up that needs to be addressed because it’s hard to track everybody down. Although a flexible work schedule might not be ideal for all managers, there are some things that an employer can do to help make things work.

Create a Common Work Window Schedule

In any work environment, collaboration is crucial, but if everybody has different schedules, nobody is going to be successful working together. Creating a common work window doesn’t mean that everybody has to work from 9 am to 5 pm, but you do need to set specific hours where all employees are available.

Setting these hours aside allows employees to manage their schedules and gives them an idea of a daily routine that they can follow.

Use Meetings Correctly

Most employee meetings are a waste of time and are not something that anybody looks forward to. As a meeting cuts into people’s work time, only call one if there is no way around it. When calling a meeting, create a plan for it and then stick to what’s on the agenda.

Don’t let conversations wander or become irrelevant. Give the workers something that they can take away from the meeting. Always know when to make one required or voluntary.

Make Use of a Work Platform

A cloud-based one allows remote workers to customize workflow apps that will work for them rather than using software they have to fight with. Using a work platform enables better communication with remote workers and allows for easier sharing of files. Cloud-based programs also allow employers to track their employees’ work.
